As 12-year veterans who’ve placed hundreds of business professional staff in critical positions with some of the world’s leading law firms, the team at Maverick witnesses daily the barriers to entry faced by adult job seekers, especially those from the underserved and under-resourced communities supported by StreetWise Partners in the NYC, Detroit and DC metro areas.
Startling figures, such as 70% of available positions aren’t published on job search sites and 70% of professionals get hired as a result of a pre-existing connection, underscore the extent of the issue. As industry leaders, we recognise the responsibility we have to work to redress this hiring imbalance.
On April 22, Ren Tucker, Michele Iacovano, Ben Field and a select group of clients and partners participated in SWP’s Annual Partnership Celebration in honor of LinkedIn. Through virtual breakout sessions, the team mentored adult job seekers from diverse backgrounds seeking employment and internship opportunities.
“We continue to be energized by our involvement in SWP’s mentorship program and derive great satisfaction from meeting these talented professionals. The caliber of this year’s crop really is strong. We urge our community to keep an eye out for SWP job seekers — they are high potential individuals who really just need someone to open a door for them,” Ren remarked.
